Shigeto is undoubtedly considered one of the most interesting IDM music artists in recent years.

Zach Shigeto Saginaw entered the world of music when he was still in diapers – his father was a passionate vinyl collector, particularly the various styles of jazz music. And probably that’s one of the reasons his son Zach headed for drums at an early age. For most of his youth, he played in various bands in his home, Detroit environment, and later on in New York, where he studied jazz. As a student, he spent several years in London – and on the island he caught the enthusiasm for electronic music. This new obsession has borne fruit when he was adopted by the Ghostly International label – where he released his debut album Full Circle.

The genre in which Shigeto moves is quite difficult to define: some define it as abstract hip hop, but this is really too limited a definition. He could be easily placed among the ambient, trip hop and similar artists – but nevertheless Shigeto is foremost an innovative and extremely fresh artist. Last year he released his third album, No Better Time than Now which had a great success on the charts of the best in 2013.

Borja Močnik a.k.a DJ Borka is a DJ, producer, editor, event organizer from Ljubljana. He is spinning records for more then 10 years now. A couple of years ago (together with Bakto & Woo-D) they started a funk night Good Foot, whose most known project is Tetkine radosti, a mix collage of old (mostly 60s & 70s) yugoslav music – from beat music and funk rock to jazz and schlager. Borka used to be part of rap group from Ljubljana – Ironic Tronic. Together with DJ Bakto and Marjan Stanič they form a music group Jimmy Barka Experience. In 2012 he released his debut album – What Sticks on RX:TX records.

Shigeto was already featured on the ArtistTalk portal. We recorded a casual and relaxed conversation with him when he was playing live at TodaysArt festival in The Hague in September 2012. We talked about decent skateboarding and how arms can but shouldn’t be broken, about the importance of live and the joys of life.
