In the 1st part of his talk Jacek Zachodny, a Wrocław-based artist working with video, performance and installation using various media, presents a selection of his earliest works revolving around new media, starting from the mid-1990s. By showing archival television documentation of his Philosophical Stone media installation and video recording of his Cage public space performance, he is also discussing the historical context of art production in Poland, the approach to documenting and archiving media art and specific issues of carrying out projects in public space. Ongoing video documentation of chosen aspects of reality and creative work with the growing archive of recordings are the essence of his Mind Bazaar project, carried out since 2004 during his travels to Middle East and Asia, dealing with spirituality, religious rituals, human behaviours and collective emotions.

"The main principle was to set myself outside, in the urban space, staying at the same time inside".
