With a background in Fashion Design (2000-2010), her interest lead towards com-
bining her fashion study with interaction design/user experience design. And as
she started with the integration of robotic parts in combination with Arduino’s
during 2006, her interest grew towards “animating” her designs.
Microcontrollers are used to prototype before making customized circuit boards
to ‘feed’ the electronically -equipped dresses and instead of using ordinary
electronics like LED’s, her projects are based on more ‘uncontrolled’ materials
like special e -foils, wearable smoke providers, and tube-systems consisting of
colored liquid. Curator of the TECHNOSENSUAL ‘Where fashion meets Tech-

Laura Beloff presents her paper within the panel Beyond Uncertainty at International conference Mutamorphosis in Prague, Czech Republic.

Science scholar Helga Nowotny claims that uncertainty in society arises from an oversupply of knowledge and that curiosity is one of the main driving forces behind scientific activity (Nowotny 2008). The same could be claimed of the arts where curiosity is a permanent ally. Whereas one can argue that uncertainty is actually one of the key elements inherent in speculative art & design practices. These kinds of experimental and unpredictable practices, which do not follow an established path but rather explore new areas and ideas, emerge within contemporary conditions that are characterized by a desire to speculate on future scenarios.

The author’s artistic practice evolves around the notions of a human, technology, and human relation to her environment and the world when both human and the environment are artificially modified. In this paper the author investigates specifically the relationship between a human and her environment through presenting three recent art works: A Unit, Evidence and Appendix. These three works share similar notions on human as an organism compiled of complex network of connections, and reference Gregory Bateson’s argument that organism + environment is the unit of survival (Bateson 1978 [1969]). However, in the described example cases the situation is intervened by artificially constructed and modified components.

The author proposes that these kinds of speculative approaches that are allowed in art & design, and which offer us new potential scenarios about the future, also help us collectively share, evaluate and construct the desired futures.

Talk about the robotic body control systems, interactive image control and exoskeletal interfaces on the occasion of the Mob conference in Prague.

Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca has been making robotic installations and complex mechatronic performances more than twenty years. He focuses on themes such as sexuality, violence, love and death, using robotic body control systems, interactive image control and exoskeletal interfaces. However, he says that he is more interested in symbolic and story telling rather than technical background. On the occasion of the Mob conference in Prague he does a presentation divided into two main parts- his early works and several works from nineties to his latest installation Metamembrana. He even uses an exoskeleton to demonstrate how it works.

I try to follow the the old tradition of art. For me the technology is only one step further.

At last, he mentions Woody Vasulka and his admiration of Viennese actionism.

Talk about the mobile art applications on the occasion of the Mob conference in Prague.

Petr Svárovský, a new media artist and designer talks about the relationship between technology and human consciousness, especially the way that mobile Apps and games affects human social behavior. He introduces his latest iPhone app called Flirtman, a free game, where one player [FRED] sends commands to the other player [JERRY] who must carry them out, while other people don’t know that he is under control. It is kind of a remote control, where commands are in sound form, delivered via the Internet and played to Jerry’s ears through a headset.

It is about bringing computer game out of the box to the public space or streets, where people experience real challenges and real danger, real excitement in real live.

Later on, he mentions

educational system in Norway

impact of Woody Vasulka to his work

several projects he is currently working on

Talk on the computer games as complex as scientific simulations, which can be used as a new learning environment

Daniel Schwarz talks on the intersection of technology, art and sciences. At first, he describes his diploma master study called Settlement of humans, where he tried to find poetic visual metaphors for the scientific explanation of the world or even to make a knowledge architecture in 3d to communicate those theories, just like computer simulations or scientific movies. Then he continues to talk about computer games as he tries to explore them as a new medium to teach, as a learning environment later on. As an example he introduces the computer games about physics and geography which help the pupils to get the holistic view of whole earth.

Computer games are as complex as scientific simulations but they are used for entertainment purposes only.

Then he talks about the latest project exploring the energy system, which was initiated by the german government itself. As he works closely with the best scientists and energy experts in country, the result is a complex energy simulation in Germany which is scientifically correct masked as a game. However, this game gives young learners a powerment, it gives them the same scientific instruments that the decision makers have and lets them understand the complexity of the system.
