How to link business and design

A one day experiential event with guests from Finland for designers, start-ups, businessmen, creators, politicians, cultural workers and other!

Design Biotop is an experiential workshop and discussion event that explores the problem solving and trans-disciplinary nature of design, and promotes a design thinking mindset to a country that is searching for design opportunity perspectives and its impact on economic growth. Its aim is to underline the connections between the design mindset, creative processes, education and decision making.

Design Biotop serves as a touchpoint event that illustrates what a change of mindset through design can bring to a wider working understanding of all levels of Slovenian society.

Design Biotop strives to bring together all levels of society in order to rethink the value of design in Slovenia. Its aim is to present alternative mindsets and concepts which will illustrate the possibilities for designers and design thinkers to contribute to creative problem solving and design’s potential for a positive impact on the development of Slovenia.

Finnish speakers will present examples of real time experiences to the open public with a set of talks and short hands-on workshops and exercises. Those involved will be encouraged to actively participate in lectures and talks that will evolve into different self-evaluation exercises. These will provide a hands-on experience to all participating at the event.

As part of the 8th edition of the TodaysArt Festival, the three-day symposium entitled ‘Bright Collisions’ took place at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. During the symposium, the audience, artists and professionals from various backgrounds discussed a range of contemporary and urgent topics in which art, technology and society meet and exert forces on each other.

The participants looked at what art can contribute to society in a time when the forms, values and relations of creative and technological media are being reinterpreted. In order to create a cohesive view on these developments, the subjects were approached from various scientific, social, historical and artistic perspectives, on both a practical as well as a theoretical level. With the symposium we touched upon a series of topics that gave us space for discussion and information exchange.

The Symposium was organized by TodaysArt in cooperation with the International Cities of Advanced Sound and related arts (ICAS) network, the Netherlands Study Centre for Technology Trends (STT) and the Royal Academy of Art The Hague. The realization of the Symposium has been made possible by the support of the EU Culture Programme, the DOEN Foundation, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Zuid-Holland, Witteveen+Bos and Fonds1818.

Biennial for art and technology

After 1 month, from Oct. 7 till Nov. 7, with 125 artists, musicians, writers and scientists visiting from 25 nations, Meta.Morf 2010 has finally come to an end. Thanks to all volunteers, collaborating partners, sponsors and the TEKS staff for making Norway´s most extensive cultural event for art and science possible!

Introduction.

The development and use of new technologies happens at an increasingly rapid pace, and bio technology, nano technology and new communications- and computer technologies entails examples of new tools for artists, tools that can open new worlds of ideas as well as making previously not manageable ideas realizable.

New scientific insights often implies philosophical and existential problems and questions. Artistic and scientific research are continuously part of challenging and changing our perspectives. The artist as a directly and an indirectly conveyor and interpreter of new knowledge and research, plays a crucial role for society’s abilty for both having a proper insight, as well as being able to maintain an adequate discourse, regarding the use of new technologies and scientific advancements.

Meta.Morf will for a broader audience, present artists, musicians, writers and researchers with projects and performances that in different ways reflects humankind’s position and possibilities in our globalized time.

The biennial includes art exhibitions at Trondheim Art Museum, Trøndelag Centre for Contemporary Art, and Babel Art Space, as well as several conferences, workshops, film screenings and concerts through out the whole month!

TEKS has for eight years in a row, since 2002, arranged an annual festival for arts and technology called Trondheim Matchmaking. The festival acted as an arena for presentations of innovative ideas, music- and art projects, a place to share and develop technological and artistic competence and resources. Meta.Morf is the festival’s successor and the new biennial will continue and further develop the traditions build during the Trondheim Matchmaking festival series.

Trondheim 2010

Art, technology, society. Since 1979, Ars Electronica has sought out interlinkages and congruities, causes and effects. The ideas circulating here are innovative, radical, eccentric in the best sense of that term. They influence our everyday life—our lifestyle, our way of life, every single day.

The Festival as proving ground, the Prix as competition honoring excellence, the Center as a year-‘round setting for presentation & interaction, and the Futurelab as in-house R&D facility extend their feelers throughout the realms of science and research, art and technology. Ars Electronica’s four divisions inspire one another and put futuristic visions to the test in a unique, creative feedback loop. It’s an integrated organism continuously reinventing itself.

The WRO Media Art Biennale is the leading international forum for new media art in Poland and Central Europe. Since its inception in 1989, WRO has been presenting art forms created using new media for artistic expression and communication, exploring current creative territories and building a critical perspective toward emerging issues in art and society. The WRO Biennale is organized by the WRO Media Art Center Foundation.

WWW: http://wro2013.wrocenter.pl/entry/

The theme of the WRO 2013 Biennale, marking the 50th anniversary of electronic art, will be the artistic and cultural values that have emerged – and are still emerging – from new media art. During the WRO 2013 Biennale, entitled PIONEERING VALUES, we want to present current works that deal with the relations between new media art and the ubiquitous cultural creativity that surrounds it, taking innovative approaches to the intellectual challenges and demands of our era. WRO 2013 PIONEERING VALUES will highlight new visions that allude to the past, distill the present and offer intuitive glimpses of the future.

The BERLIN DOCUMENTARY FORUM is a biannual interdisciplinary festival showcasing visual, audiovisual and performative works from all over the world.

New documentary practices are cross-disciplinary, dialectical and above all performative, regarding documentary as the staging of particular relationships between documents, authors and spectators. The second Berlin Documentary Forum sets out to present these new understandings of documentary in a program specially devised by international artists, filmmakers, cultural historians and theoretists. A group exhibition of contemporary art entitled “A Blind Spot” and the launch of an online project, “issue zero”, complement the four days of events at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

Sónar is the festival of advanced music and multimedia art that takes place at various venues in Barcelona (Spain) in the third week of June since 1994.

Sónar is a pioneering festival that is unique in terms of its format and content: a leading international benchmark thanks to a carefully assembled range of culture that combines entertainment with artistry, the avant garde and experimentation, featuring the most consolidated artists and trends in electronic music and their interactions and hybridisations with other genres.

In Barcelona, Sónar’s artistic programme is divided between the activities at Sónar by Day (concerts, showcases, professional zone, exhibition area), the keynote of which is the search for new talent, and the major shows atSónar by Night, which presents the leading names on the international music landscape.

Each year, the festival also features a series of parallel events in cultural venues in the city such as the Auditori (the Barcelona main music Auditorium) or Cosmocaixa (Barcelona’s Science Museum), and occasional collaborations with other main city events (such as the Summer festival’s GREC in 2010 and 2011).

More than 8o thousand people enjoy a faultless programme which combined the major headliners in modern electronica with an extensive line-up of emerging artists and djs, trendsetters in today’s music and new media art.

Sónar is also a meeting point for an audience eager for new ideas and specifically for professionals from all over the world from various sectors in the creative industries, who come together at SonarPro, the ideal place for doing business and making contacts.

The festival has regularly crossed Spanish frontiers since 2002 with events in various parts of the world, adapting the Sonar philosophy to unusual spaces and environments, and highlighting the most interesting aspects of Spanish talent and the scene in the city where it is held. To date, Sonar has travelled to London (an annual event since 2002), New York, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Frankfurt, Chicago and Tokyo, among many other destinations.
