In the interview, Bowen speaks about his telematic kinetic installation Tele-Present Water. This award winning work in form of a movable grid draws information about the intensity and movements of the ocean in a remote location and re-creates them in real time in a gallery space. Wave height and frequency data from National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Buoy Station on the Pacific Ocean are transformed into movements of the kinetic grid.

And when you get out of the boat, you still feel like you're moving. So I wanted to recreate that physical effect. (...) I did this to create a sort of formal contrast between the natural movement and the construction of the mechanism.

In the interview Pierre Jodlowski introduces his audiovisual installation “Passage”, a dynamic sound corridor devoted to memories. A system of sensors that is used in the installation, gives possibility to follow the people’s evolution and to control the diffusion of sound and light.

That's why the idea of the tunnel was born: when we enter into such a space, something occurs - it takes our mind and attracts our perception.

Walking through the tunnel visitors can listen to the sound sequence in many ways: quickly crossing the tunnel or stopping and controling the sound activated in interaction with the body movement.

In the interview, Daalder speaks about her performance Tribute to Karl Sims, in which she re-creates on stage the choreography of virtual cuboid creatures projected on the screen. The movements of the creatures are generated by genetic algorithms emulating human life processes. It’s the meeting of human being and artificial life.
I'm pushing myself in a direction I've never been before.
It’s a sort of need to evoke both for the machine and a human being.

In the second interview Megan Daalder speaks about Mirror Box. With this award winning participatory installation the users may experience sharing identity with another person. By doing so, the works creates the feeling of empathy amongst the public.

Building a visual relationship between you and another person. It's vulnerable (...) to allow someone to exist as your other half.

Mirror Box allows the users to enter into a state of temporary shared identity with one another.

In the interview, Aki Nakazawa speaks about the concept of her work, Lola / What Loreley wanted to speak. „I don’t know what it may mean…” With this famous poem by a German poet, Heinrich Heine, Loreley, a woman in a legend of the river Rhein, is well known as a femme fatale with beautiful hair and fascinating voice. She invites sailors with her singing voice to die and it is a very romantic, mysterious and beautiful fable. A story of Lola, a today’s woman, crosses Loreley’s story and reveals why Loreley sings.

My video is not really art and not really cinema either. (...) Somehow it was my small art statement.

It shows a suppressed emotion of a famous figure made by men and typical femininity that society expects. The shouting of Lola and Loreley breaks this taboo to liberate them from stereotypes and to express what they want.

In the interview, Janicki speaks about Oceanus, his installation allowing interactive narration based on a variational scenario, and an authoring software tool created for the work. The idea of the work, on the levels of structure and story, refers to the concept of navigating the sea and is rooted in literature and myths associated with the sea, starting from the Viking’s sagas and the classic medieval texts, such as the anonymous Navigatio Sancti Brendani, to the contemporary maritime literature. The users travel across the universe of Oceanus experiencing a co-existence of the linear narration, associated with sequentially following events, and interactive narration related to the modifiable structures, altered by choices and generative processes.

(...) it would be worthy to translate the sea voyage into a form of media interactive installation. There are plenty of great metaphors in the sea voyage that can be used in constructing installations. (...) On the sea voyage, we rather have a history that has network structure.

Notions, such as marking out courses and sea sailing, are transposed into a media environment and provide the metaphors that drive the installation.
