Vera Penz, a social anthropologist presents the “Social impact award”. SIA is a platform created to support innovative ideas and projects for students. The Social impact award is based on the delevopment of social models with the support of business and financial realities. SIA is active in Austria, Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia and organize a series of workshops and events to help the realisation of social projects.

Vera talks about the organization of SIA and the support in the development of innovative ideas.

Mike Rijnierse is a video artist from The Hague, Netherlands. In the talk, Mike discusses his work exhibited during Sonica 2012, the “Lumokinese”. His works are based on the study of interaction between art and technologies. In the talk he also illustrates his past productions and talks about creative processes and technical aspects of audiovisual works.

“Art for me is something that is free of meaning, that’s the initial premise for me to start making art”

Oli Sorenson is an American musician, VJ and artist. In the talk, Oli presents his artistic career and how he considers art a way to explore the meaning of things. He began as a successful Vj and then he became an artist, producing works for galleries and museums such as audiovisual installations, music performances and paintings. During the discussion, he also illustrates his recent ongoing projects as “no more heroes”, a re-editing of Hollywood movies and “Google art” linked to researches on the search engine.

"What fascinated me in the medium of installations and sound is how they completely change our perception of space and time."

In this talk, Gabey Tjon A Tham explains how her work developed from explorations of two dimensional surfaces to site specific installations and sound, leading to her recent sound and light pieces, among which is also the work she showed at the Sonica festival exhibition – Repetition at my distance )))))). She speaks about this work, which is also her graduation work, as the most recent phase of her explorations of sound, light, movement and site specificity. She places it in the context of Kabakov’s notion of the total installation, from the elements of which she builds a genealogy of her own installation works.
This talk was recorded at the ArtistTalk – Third Culture symposium at Sonica Festival in November 2012. In the symposium, we questioned the notion of a Third Culture based on what it claimed to be a gradual but accelerating fusion of the “two cultures” of the humanities and science.

Remco Schuurbiers, curator and multidisciplinary artist, talks about the development of CTM (Berlin Club Transmediale). As co-director of Club Transmediale, Remco explains the growing of this festival through the years and the numerous events that take place. He also illustrates many collaborations and partnerships that CTM created in the recent years. Club Transmediale is an independent project which takes place in Berlin and abroad. Together with “Transmediale – International Festival of art and digital culture” , Club Transmediale represents one of the most important events in the digital world nowadays.
