Interview recorded at the artist’s atelier in Kyoto. Noriko Yamaguchi’s video animations, photographs, drawings and performances — rigorous in their form and composition — stem from intimate experiences, thoughts, and references to personal memories and cultural encounters. Her work concentrates on the human body and its relation to nature, tradition, social environment and technology. Noriko speaks about her inspirations and presents in details works forming the Peppermint Mother exhibition at the WRO Atelier (25.05-27.06.2012), the interview includes excerpts from her performances Keitai Girl (Hong Kong, 2010) and Pillow Talk#2 (WRO 2011 Media Art Biennale Alternative Now, Wrocław, 2011). These are followed by excerpts from works by Mari Ota (Chocolate to Sisyphus) and the Weast group (OBJECT LESSON + SUBJECT LESSON) that are part of Noriko’s Pillow Talk#2 screening performance.

When it comes to performance... it is an important form of expression for me. Even if the viewers only watch the performance, they can sort of feel what is going on there in a tactile way.
